Project: Educational intervention on cervical cancer in a low-income population.
number of students to participate for academic period: At least 20.
Teacher Number: One
Summary: To reduce the incidence and mortality of cervical cancer in developing countries, where Ecuador is included, it is necessary for the population to know that this cancer is produced by the persistence of the human papilloma virus. This virus is transmitted by sexual contact. There are other factors most related to sexuality that increase the risk of suffering from this disease. Before uterine cancer occurs, there are pre-malignant lesions in the cervix, which can be diagnosed by a test called Pap smear or vaginal cytology. This test is capable of detecting these lesions or the disease in an early manner, so this disease can be prevented. The actions of promotion and prevention of the disease contribute to the fight against cervical cancer, the main and only strategy for the control of this disease, Which is currently a public health problem in the country. Educational strategies should have sustainability over time to deliver favorable results. The socio-cultural level of the population must also be taken into account, involving the young people, the male population, achieving a joint work with local authorities to achieve effective and maintained community participation.
