Reevaluating the use of translation in the language Classroom

The grammar-translation method has been consigned to oblivion, particularly in our field. In fact, with a strong focus on the direct method and the communicative approach, the use of the L1 by the student and translation exercises (into and from the foreign language) are avoided in the foreign language classroom. However, it is precisely these
exercises that allow the language learner, especially in advanced stages of the acquisition/learning process, to improve language granularity, both at the lexical and grammatical level.

En términos generales, la interpretación se define como la manera de explicar o traducir de una lengua a otra, en forma oral, ya sea simultánea o consecutiva.
Hay diversas categorías de intérpretes con cualificaciones especiales:
intérpretes de conferencia, intérpretes de tribunales, intérpretes acompañantes, intérpretes de comunidad. Es importante conocer que los intérpretes no solamente han servido de testigos sino que han sido actores importantes en la historia.

On May 28-29, 2004, the Instituto Cabañas in Guadalajara, Mexico, was the setting for the Third Summit of Heads of State of Latin America, the Caribbean, and the European Union. Leaders and representatives of 58 countries from both continents gathered to debate the core issues of multilateralism and social cohesion, with the aim of fostering greater political and commercial collaboration among the regions.
